Group Project: Using Systems of Equations to Save Money
How can algebra help you save money? Ever thought about getting a cell phone? In this web-quest group activity, you will compare the costs of different phone carriers plans and phones, determining both graphically and algebraically which is the best deal for you.
Common Core Standards
1. Students will write a system of three linear equations modeling the cost of purchasing a cell phone and phone plan.
2. Students will then solve their systems of equations by writing algebraic solutions and graphing using computer technology.
3. Finally, students will interpret the solutions by providing written explanations of the best cell phone plan under given constraints.

- HSA.REI.C.6 Solve systems of linear equations exactly and approximately (with graphs) focusing on pairs of linear equations in two variables.
- HSA.CED.A.3 Represent constraints by equations or inequalities, and by systems of equations and/or inequalities, and interpret solutions as viable or nonviable options in a modeling context
